By AM Investments · A completed St. Albans project from our records
If your house needs work, it can be hard to know where to start. Fix it up before listing? Sell it in its current condition? Our St. Albans house renovation on McKinley Avenue offers a look at one house we bought and updated.
We purchased the house in January 2022 and later sold it in June. In between, the front entry and kitchen changed quite a bit. Let’s walk through the photos and what they show.
McKinley Avenue: front exterior before and after

It is the same house in both photos. In the earlier picture, you can see the porch and concrete steps. By spring, the front had a wooden entry platform and steps, a dark front door and a lighter look. The photos were taken in different seasons and lighting.

Inside this St. Albans house renovation
The January kitchen photo catches the work already underway, a few days after we bought the house. Cabinets had been removed around the window, a sink-base cabinet remained, and sections of the wall were exposed.

By April, the kitchen had light cabinets, dark counters, an island, appliances and pendant lights. You can use the window and nearby doorway to compare the two views, even though the pictures were taken from different spots.
The timeline for our St. Albans house renovation
- January 19, 2022: We completed the purchase.
- January 24, 2022: We photographed the exterior and the early renovation work inside.
- April 24, 2022: The later photos show the updated exterior and rooms.
- June 13, 2022: We completed the later resale.
Our St. Albans house renovation took place between the original purchase and a separate resale. Your sale would have its own timeline, based on the house and the terms we agree on.
Not sure whether to repair your house or sell it?
Maybe you have a kitchen that needs updating, a project you started but have not finished, or repairs you would rather leave to someone else. You do not need to have every answer before contacting us. A description of the house and the concerns you know about is a good starting point.
You can take a closer look at your options on our St. Albans home-selling page, read our guide to selling a house as-is, or use our direct-sale versus listing comparison. Before you decide, compare the offer, expected costs, repair responsibilities and timing for your house. We’ll explain our proposed terms so you can weigh them against your other options.
